Award-winning art director, Marc Whalen has designed for magazines such as Condé Nast Traveler, Fortune, Money, New York, O, The Oprah Magazine, Scholastic, and Time Out New York on their editorial pages and supplement projects. In addition, he has contributed to Discover, Print, SPIN, and Time Out New York magazines, along with Time Inc’s Custom Publishing division as a photographer and illustrator.
A graduate of New York’s School of Visual Arts, Marc has had a diversified career. In addition, to his editorial work, he developed promotional materials and identity campaigns for numerous clients, including Grand Central Terminal, USA Network/Sci-Fi Channel. Marc has collaborated with Bristalcone films for a documentary title sequence.
Marc is a recipient of the 2008 Gold Ozzie award from Folio and numerous Merit awards from the Society of Publication Designers for magazine cover illustration, feature editorial spreads and art direction of spot illustration. The Library of Congress acquired one of Marc’s posters for the permanent archive collection. This poster was featured in a show dealing with reaction to the September 11th attack.
Marc Whalen resides in New York City where he enjoys contributing to the local art scene as a painter. A native of Queens, New York, Marc has always been thrilled by urban culture and uses the city’s energy for inspiration in visual art. He feels city life has its own rhythm and language and tries to harness this energy in his work.
